Sarah Lynn Ames, a 43-year-old White woman, was a vibrant and joyful person who spent her life in her native Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born on February 20, 1981, she was known for a contagious laugh that could brighten any room. Her family remembered her as courageous, generous, and loving. A mother to two daughters, Rosalina Alvarado and Nora Weber, Sarah was also looking forward to the birth of her first grandchild.
Her obituary described her as a "maestro of mirth" who loved art and music and encouraged others to live with gusto and laugh with abandon.
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Sarah's life was cut short. Around 11:55 a.m., she was shot near the intersection of East Townsend and North Hubbard streets. Emergency services responded to the scene, but Sarah had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed her identity.
The Milwaukee Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation. Initially, authorities announced they were seeking unknown suspects in connection with the shooting. The day after the incident, on May 31, 2024, police confirmed that they had arrested one person.
Despite the arrest, investigators stated that they were continuing to search for suspects, and no further details about the person taken into custody were released.
