In the early morning hours of April 30, 2023, the life of 31-year-old Zyron Deonte Owens, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The incident unfolded in a parking lot at the Shoppes at Quail Springs on Memorial Road in northwest Oklahoma City. As patrons were exiting an establishment around 2:19 a.m., an unknown individual opened fire, forever altering the lives of several people. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Owens deceased from gunshot wounds.
He was not the only victim of the senseless violence that morning; three other individuals, Evan Phillips, 29, Devontae Green, 21, and Tycia Britton, 20, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals by private vehicles.
The Oklahoma City Police Department swiftly began an investigation into the shooting, which marked the city's 28th homicide of the year. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, no suspects have been identified or taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the homicide tip line as the search for answers and justice for Zyron Owens and the other victims continues. The case remains open, leaving a community and a grieving family without closure.
Born on February 23, 1992, Zyron was remembered as a loving father, son, brother, and friend. A graduate of Ulysses S. Grant High School who had also attended Oklahoma City Community College, he was working in the oil and gas industry at the time of his death. Known as the life of any party, he had a passion for dancing and bringing joy to those around him. Above all, he cherished spending quality time with his young daughter, Zora. His sudden and violent death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends, who remember him as a source of happiness and support.
