In the afternoon hours of a Friday in Oklahoma City, events unfolded that would cut short the life of 29-year-old Norris Wilson. On October 6, 2023, police were called to a residence at 1125 NW 82nd St. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Wilson, a Black male, already deceased from gunshot wounds. The scene that had been a quiet neighborhood street was now the center of a homicide investigation.
As detectives began to piece together the events of that
day, a narrative of a drug deal gone wrong started to emerge. Investigators learned that Wilson had gone to the home of Karrington LaJuan Lewis for a drug-related transaction. Also present at the residence were Dale Lomonte Williams Jr. and Jason Kurthers Jr. The situation escalated dramatically when Kurthers allegedly produced a firearm, announcing a robbery and demanding that everyone empty their pockets. In the ensuing chaos, it is reported that Wilson drew his own weapon and fired at Kurthers, who returned fire, fatally wounding Wilson. Neighbors later recounted hearing the gunshots emanating from a house they described as a known location for drug activity.
In the week following the fatal shooting, the investigation led to the apprehension of two of the men present at the scene. Karrington LaJuan Lewis, 25, and Dale Lomonte Williams, 21, were arrested and subsequently booked on complaints of first-degree murder. They also faced charges related to the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance. A search of a vehicle at the scene uncovered a variety of drugs, including Xanax, marijuana, ecstasy, and numerous empty bottles of Promethazine syrup.
The search for the third individual involved in the deadly encounter continued, and several days later, Jason Kurthers Jr. was also taken into custody. He, along with Lewis and Williams, was charged with one count of first-degree murder. Prosecutors added a robbery charge against Kurthers, alleging he was the one who initiated the armed stickup that ultimately led to the death of Norris Wilson. The Oklahoma City Police Department had also indicated they were looking for a possible third suspect in the immediate aftermath of the initial arrests, though the court documents laid out the involvement of the three men who were ultimately charged.
