In September of 2023, Lynda Watts, a 72-year-old White female, died in her Oklahoma City home from what was initially determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The events leading to her death, however, would soon come under scrutiny, painting a grim picture of her final moments. Her daughter and primary caregiver, 44-year-old Jaydee Watts, was subsequently arrested in connection with her mother's death.
Lynda, who suffered from dementia, was in the care of her daughter at the time.
The investigation into Lynda's death took a turn after authorities reviewed security camera footage from inside the residence. The video reportedly captured Jaydee verbally berating her mother. In the footage, Jaydee is alleged to have told her mother to 'take your pill or choke on it and die' before presenting her with a handgun. She is accused of taking the firearm out of its holster and telling her mother, “Do with it what you f------ will,” before leaving it with her.
Following this interaction, Jaydee allegedly threatened to lock her mother in the bedroom. Shortly after her daughter left the room, Lynda Watts shot herself. After her mother's death, Jaydee reportedly contacted a hospice worker. During the subsequent police investigation, she is said to have commented that 'it sucks being a 24-7 caregiver.'
Based on the evidence gathered, including the video footage and text messages sent by Jaydee after her mother’s death, an arrest warrant was issued. Jaydee Watts was charged with felony murder by caretaker abuse and kidnapping. She was booked into the Midwest City Jail and later bonded out. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lynda Watts' death is ongoing.
