In the quiet city of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a young man’s life was abruptly ended one Friday night. Jorge Santos, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 22, 2023. The incident occurred just outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant situated near the intersection of 61st Street and Garnett Road. That evening, what began as a confrontation between Santos and a group of other individuals escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving him with a gunshot wound.
Responding to an
alarm at the restaurant around 11:30 p.m., Broken Arrow police officers discovered Santos lying on the sidewalk. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation that followed pointed to a violent altercation preceding the shooting, with evidence such as blood and cash found in a nearby parking lot, suggesting a struggle had taken place. Video surveillance from the area captured the confrontation between Santos and the group.
The Broken Arrow Police Department’s criminal investigation division worked swiftly to identify a suspect. Within days, their efforts led them to a 16-year-old from Tulsa named Eduardo Cardona Perez, also identified as Jose Eduardo Cardona Perez. He was taken into custody in September 2023 and subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jorge Santos.
In April 2025, a Tulsa jury found Eduardo Cardona Perez guilty of the first-degree murder of Jorge Santos. Following the verdict, the jury recommended a sentence of life in prison for the teenager. Santos was remembered by loved ones as a caring father to four daughters who adored his family. The resolution of the case brought a measure of justice to a life cut tragically short.
