In the quiet suburbs of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded, claiming the life of five-year-old Ragnar Nelson and his entire family. On October 27, 2022, first responders were called to the Nelson family home on South Hickory Avenue for a house fire. Inside the burning residence, they made a horrific discovery: the bodies of Ragnar, his five siblings, and his parents, Brian and Brittney Nelson.
The children, ranging in age from one to thirteen, were found together
in a back bedroom of the house. Ragnar, along with his siblings Brian II, 13; Brantley, 9; Vegeta, 7; Kurgan, 2; and Britannica, 1, did not perish from the fire itself. The medical examiner would later confirm that all the children died from gunshot wounds, and their deaths were ruled as homicides. The eldest child, Brian II, had been shot multiple times. The parents, Brian, 34, and Brittney, 32, were found in the front of the house, also deceased from gunshot wounds.
Investigators from the Broken Arrow Police Department quickly began to piece together the events that led to this devastating outcome. It was determined that the incident was likely a murder-suicide. The preliminary investigation pointed to Brian and Brittney Nelson as the primary suspects in the deaths of their six children. While the manner of the parents' deaths was officially listed as unknown, the evidence found at the scene, including firearms, led authorities to this conclusion.

Friends and family revealed that the Nelsons were facing significant financial difficulties, having filed for bankruptcy in 2020 with substantial liabilities. In addition to financial strain, Brian Nelson had been suffering from chronic and severe headaches stemming from a workplace injury years prior.
