In a tragic sequence of events that unfolded in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Caleb Vaughan Collier, a 20-year-old male and a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, lost his life on May 13, 2021. His death was the result of a planned robbery that escalated into a brutal double homicide at Haikey Creek Park. Collier, along with his friend Kelly Ray Olen John Landsaw-Davis, was lured to the park under the false pretense of a friendly meeting by individuals they knew.
The perpetrators, identified as
Hunter Isaiah Hobbs and Denim Lee Blount, had devised a plan to rob the two friends. Once at the secluded park, the situation quickly turned violent. After convincing Landsaw-Davis to hand over a handgun he was carrying, Hobbs and Blount turned on Collier and Landsaw-Davis. To prevent being reported to the authorities for the robbery, they shot and killed both men. The investigation that followed, a joint effort by the Broken Arrow Police Department, the Tulsa Police Department, and the FBI, would uncover the chilling details of the crime and its connection to another violent act.
Investigators discovered that just days prior to the double homicide, Hobbs and Blount were involved in an attempted carjacking in Tulsa where they shot a stranger multiple times. This earlier crime helped to establish a pattern of violent behavior. During the investigation into the murders of Collier and Landsaw-Davis, law enforcement learned that after the killings, the suspects fled in Collier's vehicle. They later abandoned the car near an apartment complex and set it on fire in an attempt to destroy any potential evidence.
Hunter Isaiah Hobbs was subsequently arrested and faced trial. In October 2022, a federal jury found him guilty on multiple counts, including felony murder in Indian Country and obstruction of justice by killing a victim. His former fiancé testified against him, revealing that Hobbs had confessed to the murders and had even mocked Collier's final moments. In October 2023, Hobbs was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in federal prison. His co-defendant, Denim Lee Blount, was also taken into custody and is awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in the murders.
