In the early morning hours of January 24, 2023, the life of 16-year-old Dacari Laurice Green was tragically cut short. The young man was discovered unresponsive in front of his home on West Trenton Street in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders who rendered medical aid at the scene, Dacari later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
The investigation into the death of the male teenager quickly pointed to a dark and
complex situation. Authorities came to believe the homicide was possibly gang-related. According to information gathered during the investigation, including details from Dacari's last phone call, several individuals suspected him of being an 'informant.' Despite his repeated denials of this accusation to a group of people in a call, some were not convinced.
The investigation led to the apprehension of several suspects. A 15-year-old girl, Ky’Leigh Deon Shaw, was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder. Another individual, 22-year-old Tyuane Barnes, was identified as the driver of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. Over the following weeks, more arrests were made, including 15-year-olds Ja'Cori Whitmore and Tremaine Toliver, and 16-year-old Brandon Jordan, who all faced first-degree murder charges.
Ultimately, Ky'Leigh Shaw pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Tyuane Barnes' case was handled in federal court, where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of conspiracy and theft of a firearm. The first-degree murder charges against Brandon Jordan, Tremaine Toliver, and Ja'Cori Whitmore were later dismissed.
