In a quiet Broken Arrow, Oklahoma neighborhood, a story of profound tragedy unfolded, culminating in the death of 10-year-old Logan Shippy. The young male was found deceased in his home on May 28, 2025, a victim of a devastating murder-suicide that also claimed the lives of his sister and father.
The grim discovery was made when police executed a search warrant at the Shippy residence.
The warrant was part of an investigation into the disappearance of Logan's 20-year-old sister, Alyssa Diane Shippy, who had not been seen by out-of-state relatives since November of the previous year. Inside the home, authorities found the bodies of Logan, his father, 58-year-old Rodney Shippy, and the family dog. All had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Further investigation at the scene led to the discovery of Alyssa's body within the home. The condition of the residence had initially obscured her from view. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Logan and Alyssa's deaths were homicides, both caused by gunshot wounds to the head. Rodney Shippy's death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
This violent end was the culmination of a series of tragedies that had plagued the Shippy family. In August 2022, Logan's mother, Lisa Shippy, died by suicide in the same house. Just five months later, in January 2023, Logan's maternal grandmother, Diane Carpenter, was killed by her husband, Kenny Carpenter, who then took his own life after a standoff with police. In the months leading up to the final, fatal incident, the family was also facing financial hardship, with foreclosure proceedings initiated on their home. Relatives and neighbors described a deteriorating situation, with the home falling into disrepair, allegedly without running water. Concerns had been raised about Logan's welfare, with relatives noting the poor living conditions depicted in one of his YouTube videos.
The perpetrator of the murders was Logan's father, Rodney Shippy, who took his own life after killing his two children. As the sole suspect is deceased, there were no arrests made in connection with the deaths of Logan and Alyssa Shippy.
