In the spring of 2021, a young man’s life was tragically cut short in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Kelly Ray Olen John Landsaw-Davis, a 21-year-old male, was killed on May 13, 2021, a victim of gun violence in a harrowing double homicide that also claimed the life of his friend, 20-year-old Caleb Vaughan Collier. Both Landsaw-Davis and Collier were citizens of the Cherokee Nation.
The events leading to their deaths unfolded in Haikey Creek Park, where they were lured under the pretense of a
friendly meeting. Instead, they were ambushed in a planned robbery. The perpetrators, identified as Denim Lee Blount and Hunter Lee Hobbs, intended to rob the two friends. Fearing they would be identified to the police, the situation escalated to murder. Landsaw-Davis was fatally shot with a 12-gauge shotgun provided by Hobbs, who used a. 45 caliber pistol to kill Collier. After the killings, Blount and Hobbs stole the victims' vehicle and phones, later setting the car on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
An investigation by the FBI, along with the Tulsa and Broken Arrow Police Departments, led to the identification and arrest of Blount and Hobbs. They were subsequently indicted on multiple charges, including felony murder, attempted carjacking, and conspiracy. The investigation revealed that just days before the murders, on May 8, 2021, the pair had been involved in another violent crime where they shot a man multiple times during an attempted carjacking in Tulsa.
In October 2023, Hunter Lee Hobbs was sentenced to three life sentences for his role in the brutal crimes. During the sentencing, it was noted that Hobbs had shown a lack of remorse, even mocking his victims' last moments. The successful prosecution brought a measure of justice to the families of Kelly Ray Olen John Landsaw-Davis and Caleb Vaughan Collier, though the senseless loss of two young lives left a permanent scar on the community. Kelly was remembered as a devoted father to his two children and a cherished family member and friend.
