In a parking lot in south Oklahoma City, a tragic series of events unfolded that would ultimately lead to the death of 30-year-old Mariana Flores-Salazar, a Hispanic female. On the afternoon of March 27, 2024, police were called to a business at 820 W. I-240 Service Rd. following a shooting. The call to 911 was made by Mauricio Martinez, 33, who informed the operator that he had just shot his wife.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Flores-Salazar inside a vehicle with
gunshot wounds. Martinez remained at the location and was taken into custody by Oklahoma City Police and troopers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Emergency services transported Flores-Salazar to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries four days later.
Following the incident, Mauricio Martinez was arrested. Initially, he was booked on a complaint of domestic assault with a deadly weapon. However, after his wife's death, the charges were amended. Martinez now faces charges of first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, carrying or possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and reckless driving. His wife's death marked the 16th homicide in Oklahoma City for the year 2024.
