In the early hours of a Sunday morning, on August 20, 2023, the life of a 32-year-old Black or African American man, Trevis Bellard, was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire. The incident unfolded at the Rainier Hookah Lounge located in the 2200 block of Rainier Avenue South in Seattle, Washington, just before 4:30 a.m. Bellard was one of three people killed in the mass shooting, which also left six others injured.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Bellard and
another man, 22-year-old Jonathan Bishu, already deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. A third victim, 30-year-old Nadia Kassa, was found with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to her wounds at a local hospital. The King County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that all three deaths were homicides resulting from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators found five guns at the scene of the crime.
Bellard, who was described by his mother as a free spirit, an artist, and a painter, was not a resident of Seattle. He worked for American Airlines and had a passion for traveling the world. He was visiting the city from his childhood home in Texas and had plans to return on September 1st. Those who knew him remembered him as a "cool" and "funny, chill" person.
In the wake of the shooting, the Seattle Police Department launched an investigation into the violent incident. Despite the tragic loss of three lives and the numerous injuries, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing, leaving the family and friends of Trevis Bellard to mourn their loss while awaiting answers and justice.
