In the early morning hours of September 10, 2023, the city of Auburn, Washington, was rattled by a single gunshot that ended the life of 29-year-old Mohamed Othman. A male, Othman was discovered by police shortly after 7 a.m. at the intersection of 116th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 320th Street. A concerned citizen had reported hearing a gunshot in the area, prompting the police response.
Upon their arrival, officers found Othman behind the wheel of a vehicle, having sustained at
least one gunshot wound. First responders were quick to the scene but were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead in the driver's seat. The King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Othman’s death was a homicide resulting from a single gunshot wound to the torso.
Auburn Police Department detectives were called to the scene to spearhead the homicide investigation. During their initial examination of the area, they recovered a bullet and a shell casing as evidence. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement had not yet identified any suspects in the case and continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Othman's death. As of September 12, 2023, no suspects had been publicly identified.
