In the early morning hours of February 25, 2024, a tragic shooting in Seattle's Pioneer Square area claimed the life of Stuart Ray Roberts II, a 25-year-old Black / African American man. The incident, which also left a man and a woman with non-life-threatening injuries, unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot situated near Occidental Avenue South and South Washington Street.
Roberts was struck by multiple bullets and, despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The Seattle Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their efforts led to a significant development on March 13, 2024, with the arrest of a suspect in connection with the homicide. The individual taken into custody was a 23-year-old man who was later identified as an active-duty Navy sailor stationed at Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Washington.
Following his arrest, the sailor, identified as Victor Marshall, was booked into the King County Jail. Prosecutors formally charged him with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Stuart Roberts II. Additionally, he faces charges for the injuries sustained by the other two victims in the shooting. According to the charges, the suspect is accused of shooting Roberts four times during the altercation. The motive behind the shooting has not been publicly disclosed as the case proceeds through the legal system.
