On the late evening of May 25, 2024, a dispute in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood turned fatal, ending the life of 29-year-old Javonte Isadore-Danning. The male victim was with his wife when an argument reportedly broke out between her and the girlfriend of the suspect. Isadore-Danning stepped out of his vehicle to intervene as a woman was throwing items at it. At that point, a gunman opened fire.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m.
near the intersection of Occidental Avenue South and Yesler Way. A witness captured video footage of the shooting, in which the sound of 10 gunshots can be heard. According to official documents, the shooter continued to fire even after Isadore-Danning had turned his back and fallen to the ground. When Seattle police and fire department personnel arrived at the scene, they found Isadore-Danning unresponsive in the lower level of the Sinking Ship parking garage. Despite aid rendered by his wife and first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
An investigation by Seattle Police Department detectives and the U.S. Marshals Task Force led to the arrest of a suspect on June 11, 2024. The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Caution Anderson. Anderson, an Auburn resident who would turn 18 just days after the shooting, was charged as an adult. The charges filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office include second-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and theft of a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors highlighted Anderson's significant juvenile criminal history, which included six prior felony convictions, and requested his bail be set at $2 million. On July 1, 2024, Anderson pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains in custody, with his trial scheduled to begin in the fall of 2024.
