In the late summer evening of August 12, 2015, a violent altercation in the Skyway neighborhood of Seattle tragically cut short the life of 21-year-old LeMaun Lancaster II, a Black / African American male. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of a Grocery Outlet, where an argument escalated into a physical fight. Lancaster was reportedly involved in a scuffle with Jerry Allen Fluker when his brother, Marque Deandre Fluker, intervened with deadly force.
Marque Fluker, a known member
of the Low Profile street gang, drew a handgun and fired multiple shots at Lancaster from close range. Responding to a 911 call around 7:42 p.m., deputies found Lancaster on the ground with several gunshot wounds to his torso. In the moments before he was transported to Harborview Medical Center, Lancaster was able to identify his shooter to the authorities, naming Marque Fluker as the person who shot him. Despite medical efforts, Lancaster succumbed to his injuries less than two hours later. An autopsy would later reveal he had been shot at least eight times.
Following the shooting, both Marque and Jerry Fluker fled the scene in a Chevrolet Impala. However, they later turned themselves in to the King County Sheriff's Office. Marque Fluker, who was 23 at the time, was subsequently charged with second-degree murder. His 27-year-old brother, Jerry Fluker, faced charges of first-degree rendering criminal assistance. The investigation was aided by surveillance footage that corroborated the sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting. Ultimately, a jury rejected Marque Fluker's claim of self-defense, and he was convicted of manslaughter in the first degree while armed with a firearm.
