On July 7, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Spokane police responded to a call reporting a possible drive-by shooting in the 1300 block of West Courtland Avenue in North Central Spokane, Washington. Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Maria Kapustin with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, Kapustin was pronounced dead at the scene.
