Eight-year-old Christin McCarron was a bright and creative girl, known for her giggling nature and talent in math and grammar. She had even authored a play for her Montessori class titled “The Adventure of Four Little Girls.” The young girl, who had been growing out her blond hair with plans to be an Indian princess for Halloween, found her summer vacation just beginning. She spent her time riding her bike, playing in the backyard with her brother, and cherishing her favorite doll, Molly.
Her mother, Echo McCarron, remembered her as a "very, very sweet person" who was always considerate of others' feelings.
On Monday, June 20, 1994, Christin was being babysat by the Moe family. Along with Master Sgt. Dennis and Marlene Moe and their two daughters, she went to the hospital at Fairchild Air Force Base. The group was sitting in the cafeteria, drinking juice and pop after one of the Moe children had a physical exam. It was a seemingly ordinary afternoon that placed them in the path of unimaginable violence.
A former airman, armed with an assault rifle, began a rampage through the medical facility, firing indiscriminately at anyone he encountered. The sudden burst of gunfire turned the hospital into a scene of chaos and terror. In a violent spree that lasted less than ten minutes, the gunman shot numerous people. The Moe family was among the wounded, and Christin was tragically killed in the attack. The shooter's rampage ended when he was killed, leaving a trail of devastation and linking strangers together forever through the shared tragedy of Spokane's bloodiest shooting spree.
