Scott Hayden Himes, a 48-year-old man from Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on April 4, 2020. An avid motorcycle rider who also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and paintball, his life was cut short in a tragic incident in Osceola, Indiana. On that day, Himes was participating in a target shooting session with a group of people on a property located in the 10000 block of McKinley Highway.
During the target practice, a fatal accident occurred.
Himes was struck by a bullet that was accidentally fired by another member of the group. The firearm involved in the incident was a. 22 LR rifle that belonged to Himes himself. The event prompted an investigation by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.
Authorities conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. This included interviewing multiple witnesses who were present at the scene, collecting and processing evidence, and reviewing a video of the incident. After a careful examination of all the available information, the investigation concluded that the shooting was accidental. Consequently, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office announced that no criminal charges would be filed against any of the individuals involved in the tragic event.
