On February 5, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio, 60-year-old Gregory Allen Durham Sr. was fatally shot during a family dispute in the 3600 block of Bevis Avenue in the Evanston neighborhood. Responding officers found Durham Sr. and a woman with gunshot wounds; both were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where Durham Sr. succumbed to his injuries. The woman survived and was reported in stable condition.
Authorities arrested Durham Sr.'s son, 39-year-old Gregory Durham Jr., charging him with murder and felonious assault. Court documents indicate that after shooting his father, Durham Jr. pursued and shot the female victim, causing serious physical injury. During his arraignment, both the defense and prosecution suggested that mental illness might have been a contributing factor. The judge set Durham Jr.'s bond at $1.75 million.
