In the spring of 2024, the life of 33-year-old Katelyn Elizabeth Bennett was tragically cut short in Conway, South Carolina. On April 3rd, she was discovered deceased in her vehicle, which had gone into a ditch off the road at the intersection of Gore Road and Highway 905. Investigators determined that she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Katelyn, a mother and a graduate of Miller Motte College with a degree in cosmetology, was remembered by
friends and family as a kind-hearted and generous person with a free spirit. Her death brought a second wave of tragedy to her family, as her father, David Bennett, had also been a victim of gun violence in 2016. The community was left in mourning, seeking answers and justice for Katelyn and her family.
For months, the investigation into Katelyn's death continued. Then, in November 2024, a breakthrough was announced with the arrest of 29-year-old Chriwanta Bryant. Authorities reported that evidence from the suspect's cell phone, including location data and other digital information, linked him to the crime. Bryant was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Katelyn Bennett's death. He was taken into custody and held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.
