On February 26, 2023, 44-year-old Michaela Dawn Marie Daniels was found deceased alongside 38-year-old Felicia Brown in a black Chevrolet Suburban at a Shell gas station on West Third Street in Dayton, Ohio. Both women had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Surveillance footage revealed a disturbance inside the vehicle around 3 a.m., during which a male suspect exited the back seat and fled on foot.
Authorities identified the suspect as 34-year-old Deante Taviann Holden.
He was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with multiple counts of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. In August 2023, a jury found Holden guilty on all charges. Subsequently, in September 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison for what officials described as the "cold-blooded executions" of Daniels and Brown.
Michaela Daniels was remembered for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her family. Born on June 23, 1978, she was a beloved mother, daughter, and friend. Funeral services were held on March 18, 2023, at Thomas Funeral Home & Crematory in Trotwood, Ohio, officiated by Rev. Robert Jackson. The service was also streamed virtually to accommodate those unable to attend in person.
The tragic deaths of Daniels and Brown have profoundly impacted the Dayton community, prompting discussions about safety and violence. Vigils and memorials have been held in their honor, reflecting the deep sense of loss felt by family, friends, and neighbors. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information about the case to come forward to aid in ongoing efforts to address such incidents.
