On the evening of Saturday, April 26, 2025, 17-year-old Adrien Mikinge Totty, an African American male from Dayton, Ohio, was fatally shot near a playground within the Whitmore Arms Apartments on Midway Avenue. Dayton police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire around 7:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Adrien suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

In addition to Adrien, two women, aged 21 and 22, sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident. The Dayton Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Adrien's death marked the beginning of a particularly violent period in Dayton, with another teen, 14-year-old Lizaiah Burdette, shot and killed just two days later. These tragedies have prompted Dayton Mayor Jeffrey Mims to advocate for the rapid implementation of a Violence Interruption Program aimed at addressing and reducing youth gun violence in the community.

A funeral service for Adrien Mikinge Totty was held on May 16, 2025, at Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton. The community continues to mourn his loss and seeks justice for his untimely death.
