In the early evening of December 9, 2020, Clarence Augustus, a 36-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident occurred around 5:57 p.m. in the 200 block of South 20th Street, near North Boulevard. Responding officers found Augustus inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to
identify a suspect. In January 2021, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended 20-year-old Jarvis Bowie in connection with the death of Augustus. Bowie was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and assault/drive-by shooting.
Following his arrest, Jarvis Lee Bowie was tried for the killing of Clarence Augustus. In a turn of events, a jury found Bowie not guilty of second-degree murder in August 2024, leading to his acquittal on that charge.
