On February 27, 2023, at approximately 12:37 a.m., Springfield police responded to reports of gunshots in the 200 block of South Yellow Springs Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old James Lawrence Joseph Gilliam unresponsive in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
