On April 22, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio, 16-year-old Keontae Harper was involved in a tragic incident while at a residence on the 2900 block of Falcon Bridge Drive. He and his friend, 17-year-old Denarius Crowder, were handling handguns and began pointing them at each other in a joking manner. This horseplay led to Crowder accidentally discharging his firearm, resulting in a gunshot wound to Harper's head. Harper was immediately transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition.
