Brandon Clark, a 31-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, tragically died on January 22, 2021, as a result of a gunshot wound to his torso. He was found suffering from his injuries at a gas station on the 5900 block of East Main Street in Columbus. Clark was taken to Mt. Carmel East Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead early the next morning. Witnesses reported that Clark and Nehemiah Martin, also 31, were involved in an altercation that led to Martin shooting Clark.
Martin was arrested without incident at a relative's home shortly after the incident.
The Columbus Police homicide unit launched an investigation into the shooting, which was the 16th homicide in Columbus for the year 2021. During the investigation, Martin was charged with murder. However, in a surprising turn of events, Martin was acquitted of the murder charges by a Franklin County jury. The jury found that Martin was acting in self-defense during the altercation.
