On May 18, 2023, 28-year-old Jeffrey James "Buke" Allen III of Dayton, Ohio, was fatally shot at the DMAX engine plant in Moraine, Ohio, where he was employed. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. and was reportedly the result of a domestic dispute between Allen and a fellow male employee over a female colleague. The suspect, whose identity was initially withheld, brought a semi-automatic handgun into the facility, firing at least a dozen rounds, primarily targeting Allen.
Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. Another employee, likely uninvolved in the dispute, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot. The suspect attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head but survived and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Following the incident, the suspect, later identified as Frederick Cox, faced legal proceedings. In December 2024, Cox was sentenced to 29 to 33 years to life in prison for the shooting. During the sentencing, Allen's family provided emotional testimonies, highlighting his positive impact on those around him. His brother, Jiger Allen, described Jeffrey as a protective and uplifting presence who helped others turn their lives around.

Known for his love of family, humor, and passion for the Los Angeles Lakers, Allen was cherished by many. His passing left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends.
