On June 5, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., 20-year-old Kennedy Aurie-Dea Cowans was found with a gunshot wound at an apartment complex on Colony Lake Court in southeast Columbus, Ohio. She was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 3 p.m.
Witnesses reported hearing an argument between Cowans and 28-year-old Miles Gibson, followed by a single gunshot. Cowans sought help within the complex after being shot.
Gibson was arrested on June 8, 2023, by U.S. Marshals Task Force officers and charged with murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond and has been ordered to have no contact with Cowans' family.
Cowans, born on November 5, 2002, in Columbus, was a Groveport Madison High School graduate with interests in photography, fitness, and social media. She aspired to become an eyelash technician. Her family and friends have started an online fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses.
