On July 19, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., 14-year-old Adrian Allante Johnson was shot near the intersection of Heatherdowns Boulevard and Green Valley Drive in south Toledo, Ohio. First responders arrived promptly and transported him to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at 10:21 p.m.
Following the incident, authorities identified 16-year-old Zammarion Candie as the suspect.
An arrest warrant was issued, and after a period of evasion, Candie was apprehended on August 2, 2023. He was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center.
In June 2024, a Lucas County grand jury indicted Candie on two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault in connection with Johnson's death. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with authorities continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Born on July 30, 2008, Adrian Johnson was remembered for his vibrant personality and the joy he brought to those around him. A visitation was held on July 30, 2023, at United Community Church in Toledo, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
