On September 3, 2023, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting in the 6000 block of Channingway Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Shawn Grooms suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 1:50 a.m. Another individual was also injured in the incident and transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 37-year-old Kenyatta Domingo Glass as the suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued, charging him with murder. Glass was considered armed and dangerous, and efforts to locate him intensified.
On June 24, 2024, after nearly ten months on the run, Glass was apprehended in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The arrest was a coordinated effort involving the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, and the Georgia State Patrol SWAT team. Glass was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail, awaiting extradition to Ohio.
Upon his return to Ohio, Glass faced multiple charges, including two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, illegal possession of a firearm, weapons under disability, and carrying a concealed weapon. During his arraignment in Franklin County Municipal Court, bond was set at $2 million. A grand jury indictment followed, and Glass was scheduled for arraignment in common pleas court on July 17, 2024.
The collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies were instrumental in apprehending Glass and bringing him to justice for the death of Shawn Grooms. The case underscores the importance of interagency cooperation in addressing violent crimes and ensuring public safety.
