On February 26, 2024, 42-year-old Jerry D. Spencer was found deceased inside a vehicle on Carplin Place near Reading Road in Cincinnati's Avondale neighborhood. Responding to reports of a shooting around 5 p.m., Cincinnati police officers arrived at the scene, where Cincinnati Fire Department personnel pronounced Spencer dead. The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit initiated an investigation into the incident.
As of now, authorities have not announced any arrests or identified suspects related to Spencer's death. The investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542.
Born on September 21, 1981, Jerry Spencer was the eldest child of Jerome and Vickie Spencer. He was raised in a Christian faith-based home and accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized under his father's leadership. Spencer attended Zion Christian Academy and Colerain High School, where he excelled academically. He was known for his skills in carpentry and auto mechanics, often assisting family and friends with repairs. Described as having a wonderful personality, Spencer was always ready to engage in conversation and bring humor to any situation.
Preceded in death by his mother, First Lady Vickie Spencer, and grandparents, Bishop Sterling and First Lady Beatrice Spencer, Jerry Spencer is survived by his father, Bishop Jerome Spencer; grandmother, Johnnie Mae Barlow; siblings, Mayla Rubenbauer, Desmond Spencer (Tashia), Amari Spencer, and Kevin Lawrence; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were held on March 9, 2024, at Faith Temple Church of God in Cincinnati, followed by interment at Vine Street Hill Cemetery.
