On May 13, 2024, at approximately 9:45 p.m., Columbus police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2700 block of Brentnell Avenue, just south of Agler Road, in northeast Columbus. Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Antonio M. Jones Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 9:51 p.m. A second victim, an unidentified juvenile, self-transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries and was later treated and released.
Following an investigation, authorities arrested two suspects in connection with the shooting. Deven J. Price, 20, and Abdoulaye O. Diallo, 18, were both charged with murder. They appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on unrelated charges, each receiving a $10,000 bond, and were scheduled for their first court appearances on the murder charges shortly thereafter.
Antonio Jones Jr., born on April 15, 2006, was looking forward to graduation and was actively seeking opportunities toward a promising career. He cherished his family and friends, often considering friends as family. Antonio enjoyed playing video games, both solo and online with friends, and loved taking pictures with his younger brother. Known for his energetic spirit, he was always seeking activities to keep himself busy and entertained.
The tragic loss of Antonio has deeply affected his family and the local community.
