On July 19, 2024, at approximately 11:51 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the 10400 block of Dayton-Lebanon Pike in Washington Township, near Dayton, Ohio. Upon arrival, they found 28-year-old Brian Mackie with a gunshot wound inside the home. Despite life-saving efforts, Mackie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated that a physical altercation occurred between Mackie and a 27-year-old woman, during which a firearm was discharged, resulting in Mackie's death. The woman was detained and cooperated with investigators. Two other individuals were present in the house at the time of the incident. The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center was also called to secure several dogs found on the property.
As of now, authorities have not announced any charges related to the incident. The case remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit, with findings to be reviewed by the county prosecutor's office to determine if charges are warranted.
Brian Mackie, born on March 7, 1996, was a resident of Centerville, Ohio. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Mackie, and his grandparents, Lewis and Fay Mackie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Beth and Roy L. Mackie. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 29, 2024, at the Church of the Incarnation in Dayton, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
