On the morning of October 18, 2024, the body of Reynaldo Hernandez, a 24-year-old Hispanic man, was found on Youngstown's East Side. He was discovered on Liberty Road, near the Mount Hope Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Mahoning County Coroner's Office confirmed that he had died from gunshot wounds.
The Youngstown Police Department investigation determined that Hernandez had been shot the previous evening, October 17, at a home on nearby Bott Street.
Surveillance video from the residence, which belonged to Andre Bailey, captured the events. The footage showed Hernandez inside the house before he was seen running through the living room with a bloodstain on the back of his shirt. Bailey was seen on camera pointing a gun inside the home. After being shot, Hernandez collapsed in the driveway, where he remained for about 10 minutes before several men placed him in a car and drove away. The video also showed men inside the house using brooms, mops, and bleach to clean up, rolling up rugs and moving furniture to remove evidence of the crime.
In November 2024, a Mahoning County grand jury indicted six men in connection with the killing. Andre K. Bailey, 40; Vincent Marbley, 59; and Eddie Winphrie, 41, were each indicted on two counts of aggravated murder with firearm specifications, as well as aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Three other men faced lesser charges: Daniel Ramsey, 43, was indicted for involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence, while Shawn Jones, 35, and Richard W. Lightner, 40, were each indicted on a single count of tampering with evidence.
Andre Bailey was the first to face a jury. In March 2025, he was found guilty on all counts, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors argued that while Bailey may not have fired the fatal shot, he was complicit in the killing. In April 2025, a judge sentenced Bailey to 39 years to life in prison. Two other defendants in the case pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence.
Co-defendants Vincent Marbley and Eddie Winphrie remained at large for a significant time. After the U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward for information, Marbley was apprehended and booked into the Mahoning County jail in May 2026. With both men in custody, they were scheduled to be tried together.
As of September 2026, the joint trial for Marbley and Winphrie on charges including aggravated murder was delayed after a new witness emerged. A judge rescheduled their trial for October 2026.
