On November 14, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., authorities responded to a reported shooting on Disterdick Lane in Green Township, Scioto County, Ohio. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 24-year-old Ronnie L. Rowe of South Shore, Kentucky, deceased behind the wheel of a Chevy Equinox that had sustained multiple bullet holes. His body was subsequently sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
During the investigation, detectives identified another individual who had been inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting. This person fled the scene on foot but was located minutes later walking along U.S. Route 52 in the Franklin Furnace area and was brought in for questioning. The alleged shooter, 25-year-old Jacub Tyler Carver of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, was detained at the scene and later charged with one count of first-degree murder. Carver is currently held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, November 18, 2024.
As the investigation progressed, additional charges were filed against Carver, including first-degree felony attempted murder and second-degree felony felonious assault. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations was contacted to assist with processing the crime scene. Authorities have not yet released information regarding the motive behind the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing. The tragic death of Ronnie L. Rowe has left the South Shore community in mourning. Born on December 9, 2000, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Rowe was a 2021 graduate of the welding program at Ashland Community & Technical College. He is survived by his wife, Haley Gumbert Rowe, and their two sons, Carter and Noah. A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
