John Newman, a 26-year-old man from Portsmouth, Ohio, mysteriously disappeared on October 30, 1921. He was the manager of the damaged shoe department at the Excelsior factory. Newman was last seen heading to his workplace after dinner, but he never returned home. His wife, Mrs. Newman, reported him missing to the police, fearing that he might have met with foul play.
