On a tragic Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023, the life of a 25-year-old Latina woman, Rachel Ruiz-Izquierdo, came to a violent end in Las Vegas. Just before 8 a.m., as she was arriving for her job in the 500 block of Pamalyn Avenue, she was confronted by her ex-boyfriend. The man, identified as 43-year-old Ubelquier Capote-Dominguez, had been waiting for her.
He then shot Ruiz-Izquierdo in the head before taking his own life.
The couple had been involved in a long-term relationship that had concluded in the fall of the previous year. Reports indicate that Capote-Dominguez was upset that Ruiz-Izquierdo had moved on and was in a new relationship. This animosity culminated in the deadly encounter outside of her workplace, which some of her co-workers witnessed.
Authorities arrived to find both Ruiz-Izquierdo and Capote-Dominguez deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head. The Clark County coroner's office subsequently ruled her death a homicide and his a suicide. As the sole suspect in her murder also died at the scene, the case was classified as a murder-suicide, and no arrests were made.
