In a tragic turn of events on April 1, 2023, Magdalena Mercado, a 43-year-old Hispanic female, was found deceased in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Her body was discovered on a Saturday afternoon in a desert lot on her property located on the 600 block of East Hammer Lane. The Clark County Coroner's office later confirmed her identity and determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, ruling her death a homicide.
According to police, Mercado had gone to the property to bring
medicine to her husband, from whom she was recently separated. Las Vegas police, who responded to the scene because the property is in an unincorporated part of the city, found her husband, 44-year-old Jose Rodriguez Rivera, also deceased in the desert lot.
Investigators concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Rivera killing Mercado before taking his own life. Due to the nature of the event, with the primary suspect being deceased, no arrests were made in connection with Mercado's death. The case has been classified as solved.
