In the late hours of September 3, 2023, the life of 36-year-old Don Tisby, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in an alley on Sherwood Street in Las Vegas, Nevada. The area, located near Sahara Avenue and Joe W. Brown Drive, just east of the bustling Las Vegas Strip, became the scene of a fatal shooting. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the location around 11 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Tisby suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Tisby’s death quickly gained momentum as detectives uncovered surveillance footage from the area. The footage revealed a white Toyota Tacoma approaching Tisby in the alley. An individual inside the truck was seen engaging in a conversation with him. At some point, for reasons that remain part of the ongoing investigation, Tisby attempted to flee. It was then that a suspect inside the vehicle opened fire, striking him. The truck was then seen leaving the area. This crucial piece of evidence provided investigators with a significant lead in their search for the person or persons responsible for Tisby's death.
Following the trail of the white Toyota Tacoma, investigators were able to identify a person of interest. On September 21, 2023, just a few weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made. Henry Sorto, 24, was taken into custody in connection with the murder. During questioning, Sorto reportedly admitted to being the shooter. However, he claimed that he did not believe he had actually hit anyone when he fired the weapon. Despite his statement, Sorto was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder. The case against him is now proceeding through the legal system, as authorities continue to seek justice for Don Tisby and his grieving family and friends.
