In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Las Vegas, a dispute between roommates escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one man dead and the other facing a murder charge. Jonathan Johnny Morales Lozada, a 24-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on November 5, 2023. The incident unfolded inside a residence located on the 8100 block of Leger Drive, near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Durango Drive.
The events of that night began to unravel when police
received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. from a man who identified himself as Jonathan's roommate. The caller, later identified as 33-year-old Lehistor Epps, informed dispatchers that he had shot his roommate. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Jonathan Morales Lozada suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical attention provided by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the arrest report, the tragic events were preceded by a night of drinking involving Epps, Morales Lozada, and another roommate. An argument reportedly broke out between Epps and Morales Lozada, which then turned into a physical altercation. Following the fight, Epps allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Morales Lozada. During his interview with detectives, Epps claimed that he had been in a "drunken haze" and did not remember the specifics of the argument but admitted to shooting his roommate.
Lehistor Epps was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He is facing a charge of open murder in connection with the death of Jonathan Morales Lozada. The investigation revealed a history of discord between the two roommates, with the third roommate telling police that Epps and Morales Lozada had been in a verbal argument earlier that day and that there was ongoing tension between them.
