In a tragic event on December 11, 2023, Schinara Nara Patterson, a 34-year-old Black / African American female from Las Vegas, Nevada, was found deceased in her apartment. The discovery was made by the brother of her husband, who had gone to check on his sibling. Upon entering the residence, he found a horrific scene with multiple victims.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to the 911 call confirmed that Schinara Patterson had been fatally shot.
Her death was part of a devastating murder-suicide carried out by her 42-year-old husband, Marvin Ray Patterson. At the time of the incident, Marvin Patterson was on house arrest for multiple charges of lewdness and sexual assault with a child.
Also found deceased at the scene were two of Schinara's children, 14-year-old Ki'Ziah Cone and 6-year-old Zi'Myra Patterson, who had also been shot and killed by Marvin Patterson. After killing his wife and step-children, Marvin Patterson took his own life. A third child of Schinara's was found at the scene with critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The investigation into the deaths concluded that Marvin Ray Patterson was the sole suspect and that he had acted alone in the murder of his wife and her children before committing suicide. No other suspects were sought in connection with this case. The motive for the killings has not been definitively stated, though it occurred while Marvin Patterson was facing serious legal trouble.
