Inside the car was 28-year-old Justin Smith, a Black / African American male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders rushed him to University Medical Center in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Smith succumbed to his injuries six days later on March 11.
Investigators determined that the incident was not a mere traffic accident.
Smith had been shot while driving, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash. The North Las Vegas Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the young father.
