In a moment of escalating violence on the evening of June 5, 2024, a young life was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. Keith Johnson, a 15-year-old Black/African American male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that erupted in the 3900 block of North Nellis Boulevard. The incident, which occurred shortly before 8:45 p.m., is believed by authorities to have stemmed from a drug transaction that took a deadly turn.
According to police reports, Johnson was inside a vehicle that had
arrived in the area for the purpose of purchasing narcotics. At some point during the interaction, armed individuals approached the vehicle and opened fire. In the ensuing chaos, Johnson was struck by gunfire. He was initially transported to a local hospital before being transferred to University Medical Center for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that Johnson's death was a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case on June 19, 2024, when they arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with Johnson's death. The teenage suspect, whose name has not been publicly released due to his age, is facing multiple felony charges, including open murder with a deadly weapon. He was subsequently booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall. As of the latest reports, the police have not released descriptions of any other potential suspects.
