On March 4, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Plymouth, Minnesota, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Abraham Archie-Boy Barbly from Brooklyn Center. Barbly was attending a birthday party at a home in the 5800 block of Oakview when he was fatally shot. The residence where the shooting took place was reportedly rented through VRBO, a short-term rental platform.
According to authorities, Barbly suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the incident.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office officially identified him as the victim of the shooting. Following the event, Plymouth police launched an investigation and quickly made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Raheim Tyrese Cooper from Brooklyn Park. Cooper was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for his alleged involvement in Barbly's death. Reports suggest that the shooting may have stemmed from an argument that began on Snapchat, highlighting the potential dangers of social media disputes escalating into real-world violence.
In a development on February 15, 2024, nearly a year after the incident, it was reported that Cooper agreed to plead guilty to the murder charges. The case concluded on March 21, 2024, when Cooper was sentenced for the fatal shooting at the Plymouth short-term rental property. This sentencing brought some closure to the tragic event that cut short the life of Abraham Archie-Boy Barbly and impacted the communities of Plymouth and Brooklyn Center.
