On a summer day in 2023, the life of 58-year-old Asian woman Youa Vue Khang of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, was tragically cut short in what appears to have been a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded in the late morning of July 3rd in the parking lot of a TJ Maxx located at a bustling shopping center at 1300 Shingle Creek Crossing in Brooklyn Center.
Witnesses reported seeing a couple engaged in an argument inside one of the stores before they moved outside.
Shortly after, at approximately 11:39 a.m., police officers who were in the vicinity of the Shingle Creek Crossing shopping center heard a single gunshot. As they began to search for the source of the sound, a second shot was fired. The officers then discovered two adults with fatal gunshot wounds near a vehicle. One individual was found inside the vehicle, and the other was located just outside of it. A handgun was also recovered at the scene of the incident.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the deceased as Youa Vue Khang and 68-year-old Tou Pao Khang of Brooklyn Center. The medical examiner determined that Youa Vue Khang's death was a homicide resulting from gunshot wounds to the head. Tou Pao Khang's death was ruled a suicide, also from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities have stated that the shooting does not appear to have been a random act. Given that the suspected perpetrator, Tou Pao Khang, died at the scene, no arrests have been made in connection with Youa Vue Khang's death. The investigation points towards a murder-suicide, with no outstanding suspects being sought by the Brooklyn Center Police Department.
