In the quiet neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis, the life of 59-year-old Dawn Marie Blomberg, a White female, came to a tragic end on November 5, 2017. The events of that Sunday afternoon unfolded within the walls of her home on Polk Street NE, creating a scene of violence that would leave the community in shock.
Minneapolis police responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. about a person threatening another with a gun.
Upon their arrival, they were unable to make contact with anyone inside the residence. For nearly three hours, officers attempted to hail the occupants. Their attempts were met with silence until the distinct sound of a gunshot emanated from within the house. This prompted officers to make a forced entry.
Inside, they discovered a grim scene. Dawn Marie Blomberg was found to have died from a shotgun wound to the chest. Her death was officially ruled a homicide. The perpetrator was identified as her 56-year-old husband, Jerry Blomberg. After shooting his wife, Jerry turned the shotgun on himself, inflicting a fatal wound to his neck. His death was ruled a suicide. The case was closed as a murder-suicide, with no other suspects involved.
