On September 2, 2023, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Minneapolis police responded to reports of a shooting on the 800 block of Main Street NE. Upon arrival, officers found 34-year-old Shawn Deonta Torrence with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that Torrence died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling his death a homicide.
