On the morning of January 12, 2023, Michael O. Bohnsack, a 59-year-old White male, was driving his white Jeep Grand Cherokee to work in Lenexa, Kansas. It was a routine commute that tragically turned fatal in what law enforcement officials believe was a possible road rage incident. Just before 6 a.m., while on southbound Interstate 435 between 95th Street and K-10 Highway, an unknown individual in another vehicle fired a shot into Bohnsack's Jeep.
The single gunshot struck Bohnsack,
causing him to lose control of his vehicle. His Jeep veered off the highway and crashed into a ditch. When police responded to the scene, they discovered Bohnsack deceased inside his vehicle. The investigation quickly shifted from a traffic accident to a homicide investigation upon discovery of the gunshot wound. This incident was recorded as the first homicide of the year in Lenexa.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Michael Bohnsack's death, and the suspect or suspects remain at large. Law enforcement authorities have continued to investigate the fatal shooting and have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. Investigators have released a description of a possible suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan, potentially a Ford Fusion or a similar style of car. It is believed that after the shooting, the suspect's vehicle continued eastbound on Interstate 435. A reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in this case as the search for justice for Michael Bohnsack continues.
