John Michael "Mikey" Williamson, a 20-year-old Caucasian male, was a vibrant young man whose life was tragically cut short on February 27, 2022. A graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School in 2020, he was known for his big heart and a smile that could light up a room. He was a proud member of his high school's varsity football and baseball teams and was working as a supervisor at UPS.
In his free time, Mikey had a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing.
The night of his death, Mikey was at his home in Lenexa, Kansas, with 22-year-old Sara Beck, whom he had recently started seeing. The evening took a horrific turn when Dustin Johnson, 37, Beck's ex-boyfriend, arrived at the residence. In an act of violence, Johnson fatally shot both Williamson and Beck before turning the gun on himself. When police responded to a report of a shooting at the home around 1:20 a.m., they found a grim scene. One person was pronounced dead at the location, and two others were rushed to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
The investigation that followed revealed a disturbing backstory. Johnson and Beck had previously been in a relationship, and it is believed Johnson's actions were motivated by jealousy. The Lenexa Police Department investigated the incident as a double murder-suicide, with Johnson as the perpetrator. Further investigation into Johnson's belongings uncovered alarming materials. A search of his home in Belton, Missouri, yielded explosives, bomb-making materials, and "ghost guns". Additionally, four pipe bombs were discovered inside his vehicle. It is also believed that Johnson may have used a tracking device to locate Beck at Williamson's home. In the wake of the tragedy, Williamson's family remembered him as a kind and giving person who would defend others from bullies and help his coworkers.
